2012 is fast approaching, it's time we take notice of where we're headed, where we are, and what need to do to go where we would like. Personally, I've been going through a lot of changes as of late, and I feel amazing. I can only hope the world is ready to realize what is ahead of us. At long last, I'm ready to post a new episode of the Afro-Marc Podcast! I'm deeply apologetic for abandoning the cause for so long. I've recently relocated to Thailand where I'm living at a yoga school. As such, it's taken me a while to feel grounded and in control of my surroundings. I've been here about a month now, so I feel like I'm ready to kick out the jams on a regular basis once again. It's fitting I get back into it with an episode entirely composed of meditation and yoga music. This is forty minutes of music designed to allow you to harness the power of your mind. Meditate on your third eye as you listen to the Gayatri Mantra. Namaste (Brought to you by The Afrobeat Blog and Afro-Marc Productions).
1. The Gayatri Mantra
PS - Don't worry, the funk will return soon!

Let me start by apologizing for not posting a mix in over a month. I have no excuse. I do however have a dope ass mix for all of you who have been waiting all this time. Ever since I heard the first cut on this mix, I've been dyin to get my own roller disco party on and poppin. We kick things off this week with a track from a record I've got on repeat these days, Bulletproof from The Liberators self-titled debut LP. As I recently wrote in my review for The Afrobeat Blog, this record is about good as any afrobeat record I've heard in a while. The Liberators hail from Sydney, Australia, but they've got a sound that resembles that which comes from Daptone Studios in Brooklyn. We also feature some Ikebe Shakedown, Jorge Ben, and close things out with some Sly (Brought to you by The Afrobeat Blog and Afro-Marc Productions).

We kick things off this week with one of the all-time classics, The Payback by JB. This song was originally written by Fred Wesley to be on the soundtrack to a film, Hell Up in Harlem, but when the director decided to go into another direction, The Boss decided the record was too good to not put out on its own. History has certainly deemed he made the right choice. We also work in some Stevie Wonder featuring a song with which I'm absolutely obsessed right now, as well as some Mayer Hawthorne, Los Cafres, and a cut from a tight afrobeat band out of Sydney, Australia, The Liberators (Brought to you by The Afrobeat Blog and Afro-Marc Productions).

I recently broke up with my girlfriend of two years. It's all for the best, but I've been listening to my fair share of sad music as of late. As such, I've put together a mix of songs that aren't necessarily break up songs, but they all hint at my state of mind these days. It's a new year and new opportunities abound. This week's episode is the Blaxploitation Episode, all the songs are taken from soundtracks to 1970's blaxploitation films. While I'm leaving out several classic film scores in this mix, I've put together a funky mix that I hope you'll dig (Brought to you by The Afrobeat Blog and Afro-Marc Productions).

We go heavy on the funk this week, kicking things off with a track from the new collaboration between John Legend and The Roots, Wake Up. They recreate Eugene McDaniels' Compared to What, although you wouldn't even recognize it if you didn't know. While I usually don't include pop songs in my mixes, I simply couldn't resist working Cee Lo Green's pop hit Fuck you into the mix. In my opinion, it's the perfect pop song. We also work some Ebo Taylor, Very Best, and JB's into the mix along with a track off of The Trouble Man soundtrack (Brought to you by The Afrobeat Blog and Afro-Marc productions).

I have a copy of this LP hanging in my apartment that originally belonged to my Uncle Richie. He passed away two years and two days ago. Without him, this podcast would not be possible, so I'd like to dedicate this episode of The Afro-Marc Podcast to him. I know he'll be diggin it up in heaven. Before we get into this week's episode, I'd like to let everyone know, The Afro-Marc Podcast is switching to a bi-weekly format. I didn't know what kind of response I'd get when I started, but I find it inspiring so many people dig what I'm doing. I'm not stopping anytime soon, so keep spreading the love! Instead of recording a new episode to mark the occasion, I'm re-releasing the very first episode I ever recorded to commemorate where I'm at. We kick things off this week with a seriously nasty track from Eddie Palmieri--Lucumi, Macumba, Voodoo. I was finally able to break myself from my Afro-funky kick, but not for long. We also feature some Tribe Called Quest, Whitefield Bros. and Sly and Robbie (Brought to you by The Afrobeat Blog and Afro-Marc Productions).

The funky African kick continues this week with my favorite track off a record I picked up last weekend at Good Records in the E. Village NYC. If you're into African records, and you live anywhere near New York City, Good Records has the deepest collection I've ever seen. Orchestre Poly Rhythmo is the pride of Benin, W. Africa. They exhibit their unique style on three compilations released in the last couple years. I highly suggest all three albums. We also feature some Balkan Beat Box, Dr. John, and Extra Golden (Brought to you by The Afrobeat Blog and Afro-Marc Productions).

We kick things off this week with a song from a record I'll be spinning this weekend in Brooklyn at Rose Live Music in Williamsburg Saturday night--Take Your Soul by the Sahara All-Stars. I'm on an African disco kick these days and it's only going to get funkier. I also include two songs featuring Guru, the recently deceased hip-hop luminary that will no doubt go down as one of the best lyricists of all time. I was truly saddened when I heard about his passing. Guru's Jazzamatazz Streetsoul was one of the first hip-hop albums that ever made a serious impact on my musical consciousness. We also feature some Aretha, K'Naan, and Grupo Fantasma (Brought to you by The Afrobeat Blog and Afro-Marc Productions).

I also include multiple tracks from Black Man's Cry, a compilation that pays homage to the global influence of Fela Anikulapo Kuti, another amazing album recently released, and two more dope tracks from Madlib. I've been inundated with new music the last few weeks and it's all been amazing. Needless to say, this episode is serious (Brought to you by The Afrobeat Blog and Afro-Marc Productions).

Things are pretty afro-heavy from there on out including Antibalas, Orchestre Poly-Rythmo De Cotonou, The Black Seeds and Sly & Robbie (Brought to you by The Afrobeat Blog and Afro-Marc Productions).

We kick things off this week with some Afro-Cuban funk. We did things a little different this week--no JB or Fela. I know, it's weird but we do feature Chopteeth Afro-Funk Big Band, The Brazilian Girls, and a host of other groove-makers to get you out on that dance floor (Brought to you by The Afrobeat Blog and Afro-Marc Productions).

This week we pay hommage to Latin America and its funky contributions to the world by kicking things off with some Jorge Ben and some electro goodness from Afrobeta and Monareta. It's business as usual from there on out with some Sly, JB, and a whole lot more...

This week we kick things off with a track from Fela Anikulapo Kuti with Ginger Baker on drums along with Tony Allen. Then we kick it over to the Cameroon with Manu Dibango and let the funk flow from there on out...(The Afro-Marc Podcast is brought to you by The Afrobeat Blog and Afro-Marc Productions)
